Every cut has a letter (A, B, C), and every step shows which lettered parts and which screws go together, so you build it like flat-pack furniture, one step at a time.
You also get dimensioned drawings, a materials and shopping list, a cost spreadsheet and CAD files, so the plans answer the questions that come up while you build.
CAD files included
A SketchUp-ready 3D model (.dae, every board a named part) plus DXF drawings for AutoCAD, LibreCAD or FreeCAD, so you can change a size or hand the drawings to a drafter.
What you build
Plans for a wooden Christmas tree from 2x4s, 5 ft and 40 in.
A 2x4 spine stands on a half-lap cross base of two feet on edge, four 45 degree braces tie it upright, and flat 2x4 branches in graduated lengths are screwed to the front, alternately 1 in left and 1 in right of the spine so the tree zig-zags up like a spiral. A diamond topper cut from the same 2x4 finishes it. Lights and ornaments are not included.
- A safety sheet first: tip-over, wind and lights, with a tie-back
- Four 8 ft 2x4s for the 5 ft tree and two for the 40 in tree, with the board packing proved
- A half-lap base and 45 degree braces, with detail drawings for the notch and the brace
- Staggered spiral branches, 8 on the 5 ft tree and 5 on the 40 in tree
- About 4 hours for the 5 ft tree and 2 hours for the 40 in tree, plus paint
A tall, narrow tree can tip over
The base is as long front to back as side to side, and the plans check a sideways bump and a 15 mph gust, but they are planning values, not tested ratings. Tie the tree back with the screw eyes and cord in the shopping list wherever children, pets or wind can reach it, use LED lights rated for where the tree stands, and never leave it lit and unattended.
What you get
