Every cut has a letter (A, B, C), and every step shows which lettered parts and which screws go together, so you build it like flat-pack furniture, one step at a time.
You also get dimensioned drawings, a materials and shopping list, a cost spreadsheet and CAD files, so the plans answer the questions that come up while you build.
Permit drawing set included
Permit drawing set included, ready to adapt for your permit application; some building departments require stamped drawings. The PDF opens with a permit drawing set for each size: a site plan template, footing plan, framing plan, elevations, section and details, a code reference table that names its topics, the load and span basis and a materials schedule. These are generic DIY drawings with no engineer's or architect's stamp, and the code table is a reference, not a guarantee that your office will accept them. Have a licensed engineer or your local building department review the drawings for your site before you build or apply.
CAD files included
A SketchUp-ready 3D model (.dae, every board a named part) plus DXF drawings for AutoCAD, LibreCAD or FreeCAD, so you can change a size, add your lot lines or hand the drawings to a drafter.
What you build
Plans for a pergola around a hot tub, 11 x 11 ft and 12 x 12 ft.
Four 6x6 posts on 20 in piers 48 in deep (or an existing slab that is not the tub pad), doubled 2x12 beams, 2x8 rafters lying tilted 1 in 12, 2x4 shade slats, 4x4 knee braces at every post, privacy walls of 2x6 rails on heavy framing angles with 1x6 slats outside, and a 2x8 drink shelf. The tub, its pad, its power and its disconnect are NOT part of the plans.
- A safety sheet first: the tub, the electric disconnect, wind and the pad
- Posts and footings kept clear of the tub pad; about 15 in clear each side of the tub
- Slat walls on one or two sides, gap 1-1/2 in or more, with the wind load checked (planning values)
- Shade slats or an optional polycarbonate roof on a 1 in 12 slope (the polycarbonate roof is not checked)
- About 30 hours for the 11 x 11 and 36 hours for the 12 x 12 with helpers, plus concrete curing
A hot tub is a heavy, wet, electrical place
These plans cover only the wood structure. They do not design, place or approve any electrical, plumbing or gas work or the tub pad. A licensed electrician must wire the tub and decide where its disconnect goes; confirm every rule with your building department and the tub maker. Keep the tub cover locked and supervise children.
